This year, REX has opened up a digital marketing division and we needed a Digital Marketer Manager to help us turn our ambitions into reality through systems and insight. Enter – Garvit! We worked with Garvit over the past few months as he was completing his MBA and are now thrilled to be able to welcome him to the REX team full time. Here’s an introductory Q&A with Garvit so you can learn a bit about him!
Tell us a little bit about you and your background!
I am a seeker, trying to understand the meaning of life and my place in the universe. Don’t get me wrong; I am not a mystic, hunched over a fire brewing a frothy liquid trying to transform lead into gold 🙂 I am a regular Joe with a hippy disposition, a healthy appetite for the unexpected, and a genuine love for the road. I love traveling, meeting new people, and being in nature.
I studied computer science, international business and did a master’s in marketing in beautiful Vancouver. I am a curious soul always wondering and trying to understand the “why”. I am interested in consumer behavior and how it is evolving with the rise of digital media.
What do you love most about marketing and branding?
The most exciting aspect of marketing and branding is the culmination of arts and sciences. Being an engineer, I always had a knack for the analytical. As much as I love the numbers and logic, they lack the beauty, intrigue, and persuasion of an art form. Marketing gives me a chance to better understand how the human mind works and what moves us humans to take action. It enables me to find balance and build a better understanding of our world.
What attracted you to working at REX?
When I first read the job description on LinkedIn, the detail that really got me hooked was the request to remove details like photos, etc., from the resume. I hadn’t seen any job description before this where the hiring manager proactively made a genuine effort in removing the unconscious bias from the hiring process. It was refreshing af to see that on a job posting on LinkedIn. I made up my mind to apply and, for some unknown reasons, felt that I would end up working at REX. Needless to say, meeting Allison and Melissa and their vision for the agency made working at REX more appealing.
What is your WHY (we’re always obsessed with WHY!)
As a marketer, my why is to build a better understanding of why we humans do what we do. From raging wars to holding together through pandemics, we have infinite potential to create and destroy. In between those extremes lies the understanding of the “Why”.
Any fun facts about you that you’d want our clients to know?
I love road trips and riding motorbikes in the mountains. I, along with a dear friend, worked on a road documentary in 2012. The trailer is here if you are curious. We never got around to finishing the documentary for many reasons, which I don’t want to bore you with. It is a pet project that my friend and I will hopefully revive again in 2022.
